Art For Change 2022 includes exhibits and events at Rotary Centre For the Arts, the Mary Irwin Theatre, the Okanagan Heritage Museum and the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. All within the Kelowna Downtown Cultural District.

What’s happening.

The Beast International Environmental Film Festival features the stories of peoples, passionate about the environment.

Since Kelowna is second home to young Ozzies, it was a naturally fit to partner with Melbourne-based EFFA. EFFA films provide multiple angles to human impacts on nature, and in doing so, raises money for environmental causes. The Beast features our favourite EFFA full-length documentaries and shorts from Down Under.

Dave Mai (DM Productions) is the Okanagan’s very own well-loved adventure film maker. The Beast will feature DM Production’s Stokanagan, shot in the climbing regions of the Okanagan, Higher Perspective, which gives an inside view on the life of an adventure photograher, and Osoyoos 2021, about creating a community mural.

Claudia Franzen is well-known in Myanmar for her work with environmental group Thant Myanmar, and her award-winning short, The Art Of Living While Being Left Behind. This documentary focuses on a family at one of Yangon’s massive dump sites. (Claudia’s product spots for ChuChu are included in Beauty WAD Friday night events)

As a special feature presentation kicking off the evening Zydeco Concert, Saturday Beast screenings finish with Landfill Harmonic, the story of Paraguayan music teacher Favio Chavez and his Recycled Orchestra of Cateura. This children’s orchestra in Paraguay performs internationally, using advanced instruments created with materials recycled from a trash landfill near Asuncion.
