The World Economic Forum is the brainchild of 81-year old Klaus Schwab, an annual gathering designed to foster dialogue -- and with it improvement in the planet’s health -- between the world’s most prominent figures in politics, big business and activism; from the Brazilian President, to the head of Nestle, to Greta Thunberg.
Amidst escalating populism and a growing mistrust of the elite, The Forum accompanies the WEF’s founder and master diplomat over a two year period as he strives to achieve his noble mission, whilst grappling with the possibility that his creation may ultimately serve as a mere elitist echo chamber that only affirms the status quo.
Balanced in its outlook and littered with enthralling interactions between the world’s biggest and most powerful personalities, this documentary is informative, thrilling, and entirely engrossing, thoughtfully scrutinising the necessity for climate related reform, and the myriad economic factors which resist that reform.
”An intricate web of facts, snippets of conversation, ideas and well-driven points reminding us that nothing is black-and-white and that, despite the Nestles and Bolsonaros of this world – or rather because of them – the World Economic Forum is a crucial platform through which it is maybe, just maybe, still possible to improve the state of the world” --Vladan Petkovic (Cineuropa)
