Give a Flick!

EFFM ‘14.

4 - 12 September 2015

Palace Kino and IMAX - Melbourne

Event details.

We are thrilled to announce this year's program. Jam-packed with incredible environmental film, thought-provoking debate and discussion and fun-filled special events, EFFM 2014 is set to knock your socks off.

With films directed and narrated by Academy-award winners Luc Jacquet, Cate Blanchett and Sean Penn, our first ever curation of stunning short enviro flicks, and a program full to the brim with special events — this year's festival is bigger than Ben Hur!

Program Highlights

Opening Night & Launch Party | Celebrate the opening night of the fifth Environmental Film Festival Melbourne. Following the Australian premiere of Once Upon a Forest from Oscar®-winning director Luc Jacquet, don’t miss the EFFM launch party with live music, drinks and canapes.

Special IMAX screening | EFFM has joined forces with IMAX Melbourne for a family-friendly screening of Journey to the South Pacific. Narrated by Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, this event is the Australian premiere of a film experiencing great success with all ages across the globe.

Slow Food Story & tasting | Be charmed by charismatic food activist Carlo Petrini in Slow Food Story, join the conversation about our food systems with expert panelists and local food appreciators, and feast on tastings of mouthwatering slow food.

Closing night festivities | Celebrate closing night with a screening of Planet RE:think, a panel discussion with Adam Bandt and Bob Brown, festival awards, and a closing night party to kick up our heels after another stellar year for environmental film.

Note from Directors.

It’s been a tough year for our environment. We’ve seen Tassie’s magnificent World Heritage forests threatened with logging, a huge coal port approved on the Great Barrier Reef, and the laws and bodies that protect our climate dismantled one by one.

In these dark times, what is heartening is that we’ve also seen amazing displays of people power. We’ve seen big mining companies kicked out of our rural communities, a crowd-funded Climate Council after the government’s scrapping of the Climate Commission, and social barriers dissolved as people from all walks of life come together to defend our precious environment.

In the current political climate, we know it’s up to us now. That’s why we’ll keep bringing nature to the big screen to facilitate debate, discussion and action on some of the most pressing environmental issues of our time.
