What’s happening.

EFFA presents Out of This World - a thought-provoking online program celebrating environmental science/fiction, running from Thursday 29 October – Sunday 8 November 2020.

Over 11 days we'll take a close look at the interactions between science, technology, philosophy and art, and aim to facilitate conversations that make the familiar unfamiliar - or strangely familiar and familiarly strange.

Join us to imagine the future, and rethink our relationship with ecology, science, fiction, science fiction, film, and more broadly, the Earth.

All films are available On Demand.

Presented in partnership with Inner North Community Foundation and Bendigo Bank. our Festival Friends the High Commission of Canada and Northcote Bakeshop, and with support from Bush Heritage Australia, Brunswick Mechanics Institute, Polyglot Theatre, Science Gallery, Seed Mob, and Mabu Mabu.

Note from Director.

Welcome to 'EFFA presents: Out of This World', a celebration of creativity and discovery that lies at the intersection of science, technology, philosophy and film.

2020 has been a year of many challenges and as we collectively navigate this bizarre new world shaped by the current pandemic and ongoing environmental collapse, I'm really proud to present this online festival, which has been carefully designed to foster connection and discussion, while offering opportunities for us all to explore new ideas, imagine the future and re-evaluate our relationships with our ecology, the Earth and outer space, in the hope of finding new ways forward.

By looking to different worlds, near, far and imagined, we hope this selection of films and events will entertain, enlighten and allow us to continue to map our collective recovery journey and build our resolve to respond to future environmental challenges.
